Nancy Ruth (McCord) Rutland, age 88, of Cadiz, KY, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2014, at her home in Cadiz, KY. Mrs. Rutland was born in Nashville, Tennessee, to Marks Wright McCord and Lula Ida (Bingham) McCord on July 14, 1925.  She grew up in Nashville and spent her summers at her Grandparents’ farm, Civil Order, near Chapel Hill, Tennessee.   She graduated from East Nashville High School and began work as comptometer operator for the Bell Telephone System.  Bell transferred her to Memphis.  She was unhappy in Memphis because she missed her family in Nashville.  That’s the important thing to notice.  Her family was her whole life.  Her old boss in Nashville understood and gave her her old job back.   At a United Services Organization (USO) dance she met James Forest Rutland, a recently discharged marine and carpentry apprentice.  They were married on May 31, 1947, and began their family a year later.  After several months in Nashville they moved to Illinois where there were better job opportunities for carpenters and after that to Cadiz.  Carpenters go where the work is so the family moved a lot, to Chicago, back to Nashville, to Rochester, Kentucky, always returning to Cadiz in the interim.  In 1962, the family settled permanently in Cadiz at 83 Lincoln Avenue into the house they had built in 1955.  Her years raising her children and grandchildren in that home were the happiest years of her life.  She worked for many years in the Trigg County Court House in different offices with a lengthy stint in the Tax Assessor’s Office.  Eventually she joined the United States Postal office where she retired in 1990.  She was also a long-time member of the Cadiz United Methodist Church and participated in the United Methodist Women, where she handmade numerous quilts for the children of the United Methodist Orphanage.  She also was a member of the Trigg County Hospital Auxiliary. She is survived by a brother and sister, John McCord of Shelbyville, Tennessee, and Jean Fast of Triune, Tennessee, six children, Johnny Mac (Francie) of Salmiya, Kuwait, Steve (Marcia) of Enterprise, Alabama, Sandy Marks (Lu) of Lexington, Kentucky, Debbie of Nashville, Tennessee, David (Debby) of Cadiz and Pam Carr (Timmy) of Cadiz, ten grandchildren, Aulica Monroe (Locke), Tamara (Woody Todd), Jennie Dart (Bill), Katie Nelson (Ben), Kara Beth Johnson (Joe), Mark Thomas (Camille), Jack Rutland, Ben Rutland, Mac Carr, and Alex Carr, nine great-grandchildren, Cole, Parker, Tripp, Madison, Emaleigh, Addison, Bentley Grace, Abigail  and Aiden, along with many nieces and nephews.  She was such a blessing to those who knew her, she was always so appreciative of any small gesture anyone did for her, her strength and compassion will be sorely missed.
