Ruby Osburn Whitaker

Ruby Osburn Whitaker, age 94, passed away Sunday September 13, 2015 at 2:55 pm in Paducah, KY.  Mrs. Whitaker was the daughter of Henry Norman and Lucy Colley Osburn.  She was born in Canton, KY on November 3, 1920.  She resided in Canton until her early teens when she moved with her family to Paducah.  She married James Philip Whitaker Sr. in 1940 and had six children:  James Philip Whitaker Jr., William Norman Whitaker, Betty Lou Whitaker Cashon, Kathryn Sue Whitaker, Janet Lynne Whitaker-Scott, and Christopher Daniel Whitaker.  Mrs. Whitaker enjoyed reading, loved to fish, and was a crossword master. She took great pride in winning the biggest fish award in a contest at Kentucky Lake and loved to brag that she could out-fish her husband.  She spent Sunday afternoons watching golf and loved Tiger Woods, although not so much in recent years.  Evenings were spent watching and solving Wheel of Fortune puzzles, usually before the contestants could get a word out.  She loved watching Fox News Channel but it often caused her blood pressure to rise drastically.  Mrs. Whitaker was an excellent cook and fed the mouths of many family and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and three children:  James Philip Jr., William Norman and Betty Lou.  Her sisters Susie Noel, Mary Gilbert Arumae and Marjorie Ellen Clark and her brother Clarence Osburn also predeceased her. As she said every morning when she read the obituaries, everyone she knows is dead.  Her toy poodle Ringo also preceded her.  Mrs. Whitaker is survived by her son Daniel and his wife Trish, her daughters Kathryn and Janet and her husband Neal, and her daughter-in-law Marie.  She is also survived by her brother Thomas Osborne and his wife Betty of Paducah. Twelve grandchildren survive her:  Veronika, Natalie, Karen, Amy, Doug, John, Ken, Andrew, Michael, Angela, Gavin, and Elaina.  She has 11 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Visitation for Mrs. Whitaker will be at 1:00 pm Thursday September 17, 2015 followed by a graveside service at her family cemetery in Canton, Ky at 2:30 pm.  The family requests donations to McCracken County Animal Shelter, 455 County Park Road Paducah, Ky 42001 or Poodle Rescue of Houston, 13302 Schroeder Road Houston, TX 77070 in lieu of flowers.  The family would also like to thank all of caregivers that took such wonderful care of her over the last five years, most recently Danielle Hayes and Stephanie Meadows.

Leave Condolences

So sorry for your loss. Praying God will wrap is loving arms of comfort around you during this very difficult time.

I cannot remember spending a lot of time with her but I do remember my Mom talking about her. She was was a tough woman, sweet, funny, loved to fish so much she would take her boat out by herself. I know she will be missed by many, but she is now with family in heaven.

Dear Family & Friends of Ruby Whitaker, May every consolation and blessing be granted to each of you in your deep sorrow. My condolences and sincere sympathy, David 'Herb' Estes
