Rodney Bleidt, age 77, of Cadiz, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, May 21, 2017, at Trigg County Hospital in Cadiz. Mr. Bleidt began his career as a Pharmacist in 1963 and during that time, for nearly twenty years, he was the owner of Bleidt's Pharmacy in Cadiz. He previously served as a board member and state inspector on the Kentucky Board of Pharmacy, where he was appointed by former Kentucky Governor, Martha Layne Collins. Mr. Bleidt was a member of Cadiz United Methodist Church where he was actively involved with the United Methodist Men's Group. He was a volunteer fireman and past Assistant Chief with the Cadiz Fire Department for over 60 years and had also served in the United States Army Reserve. He had a passion for the outdoors and outdoor education and helped organize the first Boy Scouts of America charter in Cadiz, Boy Scout Troop 57. He served as a past Scout Master of Troop 57 and on the National Executive Board of the Boy Scouts of America. That love for the outdoors is where you would often find him and his late wife, Evelyn, fishing the waters of the White River in Arkansas for trout.
He is survived by one son, Eric Bleidt (Michelle), Cadiz; one daughter, Dawn Stewart (Joe), Cadiz; four grandsons, Ragon Stewart, Joseph Stewart (Samantha), Kyle Bleidt, and Cade Bleidt; five great grandchildren, Halli Stewart, Jacob Stewart, Jayden Stewart, Jenna Stewart, and Evelyn Stewart; special friend, Anne Bennett Broadbent Adams, Murray, Kentucky; and special niece, Debbie Franklin, Cadiz.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ragon and Lucille Phelps Bleidt; his wife, Evelyn Bleidt; and one sister, Margaret Newby.
Arrangements are being handled by Goodwin Funeral Home, Inc., 138 Main Street in Cadiz, where the family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM Tuesday, May 23, 2017. A memorial service will be held at Goodwin Funeral Home, Inc. at 3:00 PM Tuesday, May 23, 2017 with the Reverend Jamus Redd and Dr. Scott Wilson officiating. A reception will immediately follow the memorial service in the Family Center of Goodwin Funeral Home hosted by the Cadiz United Methodist Church.
