Mrs. Naomi Peal Guess, 82, passed away at 7:45 p.m. on Sunday, June 7, 2009 in Hoover, Alabama. She died of natural causes.
Mrs. Guess was born on Tuesday, November 30, 1926 in Trigg County near Canton, KY. She was the daughter of Leonard and Mellie Gray Peal who had a farm on the Cumberland River. Mrs. Guess was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Loyd Peal, and one sister, Myrtle Terrell.
Mrs. Guess is survived by her husband, James Robert Guess, Jr. of Hoover, AL; two children, Lana Jean Thompson, of Pelham, AL, Stanley Dale Guess and his wife Connie, of Denton, TX; one sister, Mary Grace “Gracie” Baker, of Cadiz; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Weaver, of Los Angeles, Jason Weaver, of Pelham, AL, Adam Guess and Rene’ Guess, both of Waco, TX; seven great grandchildren, Nolen Weaver, Thomas Guess, Venice Weaver, Emma Guess, Luke Weaver, Vienna Weaver and Charlotte Guess.
Mrs. Guess was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. While she was never employed outside of the home, she regularly assisted her husband for twenty-five years in their Western Auto store on Main Street in Cadiz. She was known by friends and family as an avid poet and letter writer.
Mrs. Guess was a member of Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church where she served many years as a Sunday School teacher and choir member. She lived her entire life in Trigg County until July 2008, when she and her husband moved to Hoover, AL to be near immediate family.
Funeral services for Mrs. Guess will be conducted on Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at Goodwin Funeral Home. Visitation will begin after 5:00 PM on Tuesday, June 9, 2009. Reverends Richard Sexton and Danny Guess will officiate at the services. Burial will follow at Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Trigg County.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jeffrey Weaver, Jason Weaver, Adam Guess, Charles Terrell, Larry Terrell, Doris Terrell and Patrick Kekic.
