Marie Sholar, a loved mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away on October 28, 2013 at her home in Monument, Colorado. Marie was born on December 7, 1916 in Trigg County, Kentucky to Mintie Lee and James Andrew Bryant. Marie was one of 9 children. Marie moved to Colorado in 1947 with her husband Robert and lived in Manitou Springs until 1965 when she and Robert moved to Kentucky. Marie and her husband moved back to Colorado Springs in 1968. Marie lived in Monument, Colorado since 1989. When living in Manitou Springs, Marie worked at the K-D Shop on Canon Avenue for 20 years and then again after she returned to Colorado in 1968. Marie was a professional seamstress and after retiring from the K-D Shop, Marie sewed for Simpich Character Dolls sewing their Simpich “Cloud Babies”. Marie was a room mother at Manitou Springs Elementary School, a Girl Scout Leader and a 4-H project leader. While living in Monument, Marie was a member of the Monument Homemaker’s Club. She was a long time member of Bethany Baptist Church in Colorado Springs. Marie leaves behind her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Dennis Unger, her granddaughter Amy and her husband, Michael Paben, her grandson Jacob Unger and her great grandchildren Sarah and Zechariah Paben. Marie was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Williams and Mary Noel and by four brothers, Hicks Bryant, Sam Bryant, Dick Bryant and Loys Bryant. She is survived by her brother Bill Bryant and his wife, Wandine and a sister Martha Bridges, both of Cadiz, Kentucky and by many nieces and nephews.
A Visitation will be held a Goodwin Funeral Home in Cadiz, Kentucky on Friday, November 1, from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM. There will be a Funeral Service on Saturday, November 2, at 10:00 AM at Goodwin Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Green Hills Memorial Gardens, Hopkinsville, Kentucky, following the services. Marie’s family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice for the wonderful care they provided for Marie and the wonderful support they have been to the family. You have truly been a blessing to us.
