Jerry D. Faris

Jerry D Faris, age 73, of Cadiz, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, April 23, 2017, at his home in Cadiz.  Jerry served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and retired from active duty in 1985 as a Master Sergeant.  He continued his support for the armed services through his membership in the VFW.  After his Army retirement, he worked at Fortner Gas Company for 27 years delivering propane gas to area homes and businesses.  Jerry was an active member of Rocky Ridge Baptist Church in Cadiz where he served as assistant treasurer and clerk.  He was instrumental in starting the area's annual mission trip and fundraiser golf tournament for the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota, raising money and collecting Christmas items for the reservation's children.  Jerry was a long-time avid golfer and advocate for youth golf in the area.  He was probably best known for his dedication, love, and passion for Trigg County athletics.  For over three decades, you would find him in the stands, near the field, or riding a cart along the fairway at nearly every sporting event that involved the Trigg County Wildcats.  His involvement touched the lives of many TCHS athletes over the years so much that they would often ask him to be included in their college signing pictures.  Jerry Faris was inducted into the Trigg County Athletic Hall of Fame in 2016 and will be remembered as the true Wildcat Super Fan.  His attendance and support for Trigg County athletics and youth will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years - Sue Allen Faris, Cadiz; two daughters - Rhonda Allen Neighbors (Mike), Cerulean, Kentucky, and Kathy Allen Faris (Trish), Paducah, Kentucky; three grandchildren - Katelynn Schiro, Landon Stinson, and Matthew Blakeley; and two brothers - Larry Faris, Saint Augustine, Florida, and Gary Faris (Renee), Pensacola, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Juanita Langston Faris, and one sister, Janice Heit.

Arrangements are being handled by Goodwin Funeral Home, Inc., 138 Main Street in Cadiz, where the family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM Tuesday, April 25, 2017.  The funeral service will be at Goodwin Funeral Home, Inc. at 1:00 PM Wednesday, April 26, 2017, with the Reverend Bob McIntosh and Reverend Steve Hardy officiating, and former TCHS Coach Mike Wright providing the eulogy.  Burial with military honors will follow at East End Cemetery in Cadiz.

When my Son went to Cadiz to coach, Jerry was one of the first persons i met. His passion for Trigg County sports was almost unbelievable as he attended and supported every sports team Trigg at the school. That impressed me, but that wasn't his best trait, for clearly his best was his dedication to his Church and our Heavenly Father. He was a man our youth, and adults as well, could use as their role model, Jerry will be missed, but he also will continue to live within us as our role model and friend.
