Rev. H. D. "Bud" Simmons, age 84, of Cadiz, KY, died Sunday, January 09, 2011, in Hopkinsville, KY. He was a World War II US Army veteran, retired carpenter and minister. He was a member of the Julien Baptist Church, where he was licensed to preach in 1956. He had served as interim pastor at several local churches and conducted Wednesday evening services at Brookfield Manor Nursing Home for 34 years before he retired. He was survied by: Two Daughters & Son-In-Law - Shirley R. & Billy Ezell, Cadiz, KY & Brenda Thompson, Hopkinsville, KY, Two Brothers - Eugene Simmons, Atlanta, GA & Bobby Dell Simmons, Hopkinsville, KY, Six grandchildren, Kevin Simmons, Heather Borders and husband, John, Scott Thompson and wife, Barbara, Darrell Thompson and wife Kelly, Krista Silvy and husband, Neil, all of Hopkinsville, Holly Morrow and husband Dumaka Shabazz, Antioch, Tennessee; Eleven great-grandchildren, Derek, Cheyenne and Amber Borders, Julie Word, Austin Thompson, Eric and Alana Silvy, all of Hopkinsville, Jevaugn, Mecca and Medina Shabazz, of Antioch, Tennessee, Kisha and husband, Chris Gibbs, of Clarksville, Tennessee; Four great great-grandchildren, Nathan and Killian Gibbs, of Clarksville, Tennessee, Addisyn and Kenson Word, of Hopkinsville. He was preceded in death by: Wife - Ruth Simmons, Father - Isaac Shellie Simmons, Mother - Nevada Jackson Dawson Simmons, Eleven Brothers - Herbert Carroll Simmons, John Wesley Simmons, Lacy Floyd Simmons, Amos Vernon Simmons, Cecil Ray Simmons, Grady Fay Simmons, Maxie Smith Simmons, Beryl Boyd Simmons & triplet brothers in infancy, Four Sisters - Velma Louise Solomon, Emma Naomi Meacham, Nova Mae Green & Willodean Wyatt.
Arrangements are being handled by Goodwin Funeral Home, Inc., 138 Main St. -P.O. Box 2050 Cadiz, KY 42211-031 in Cadiz, KY where the family will receive frends from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, January 11, 2011. Funeral Service will be at Goodwin Funeral Home at 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 12, 2011 with the Reverend Rev. Christopher Page officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Delmont Baptist Church Cemetery in Cadiz, KY. Memorial Contributions can be made to: Gideons International or Julien Baptist Church.
