Charles Prentice “Prentie” Futrell, 60, of 5802 Millers Mill Road, Philpot, KY, died Friday, March 7, 2009 at the University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville, KY after a brave struggle with pancreatic cancer.

He was born in Cadiz, KY, on January 10, 1949, the son of Leon Futrell and the late Eunice Stewart Futrell. After graduating from Trigg County High School in 1967, he attended Draughon’s Business College in Paducah, KY. He served three years in the United States Army as an aircraft technical inspector and crew chief and was a Vietnam Veteran. He continued his support for the armed forces by his membership in the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars.

Having a special gift for mechanics, he enjoyed a life-long love of drag racing as well as building and restoring antique automobiles and trucks.  He was happiest in his shop busily working on his latest project.

After earning his journeyman’s license in tool making at Kentucky Machine and Engineering in Cadiz, KY, he taught machine shop for five years at the Christian County Area Vocational Education Center in Hopkinsville, KY.

He began working in 1985 at the General Electric Aircraft Engine plant in Madisonville, KY and had just retired from there February 1, 2009.

Charles was preceded in death by his mother, Eunice Stewart Futrell.

Survivors include his wife of twenty-three years, Ann Kirk Futrell, and his daughter Joenelle Lorraine Futrell; his father, Leon Futrell of Cadiz, KY; his brother Jimmie Futrell, and his wife Wendy of Cadiz, KY.; a niece, Joanna Futrell and a nephew, Jeremy Futrell and his wife Leigh Ann and a great niece, Ensley Ann Futrell.

Funeral services are at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at Goodwin Funeral Home in Cadiz, KY with the Reverends Norman Ellis and Robert McIntosh officiating. Burial will be at the East End Cemetery in Cadiz, KY.. Visitation will be on Monday, March 9th, 4:00 until 8:00 PM and Tuesday, 12:00 PM until the funeral hour at the funeral home.
